Writing For Social Change
My interests always have been directed toward working with people in the hope of improving lives. I was a school librarian for twenty-seven years, and a volunteer for twenty years. I mentored a young woman from the fifth grade through high school. I’ve been a director of Friends of Paint Lick, a nationally recognized community service organization, for five years.
My writing life has mirrored my desire to improve lives. I have facilitated the Richmond Writers’ Critique Group for over ten years. At the genesis of the New Opportunity School Writers’ Group I was asked by then director, Caroline Francis, to be mentor for the group. I was selected as Woman of the Year for NOSW in 2005 for my activism with NOSW and Friends of Paint Lick. I am a charter member of and mentor to the Village Writers in my community. Using my art and ability, I intend to continue to pursue change for the improvement of lives.
